The Golden Book On Writing – By David Lambuth / 1923 Writing Advice

Business Letters –

A business letter should be,

Clear

Concise

Complete

Concrete

Convincing

Courteous

Correct

Avoid such Hackneyed and aimless phrases as: I would suggest…,Please find enclosed…, Say: I suggest that…,We enclose…

Begin with a vigorous personal message to the reader and bring in the necessary data later. It is the first personal impression that counts. Talk as you would talk  face to face.

If a letter is very short , it may look better double-spaced throughout. Increasing the margins also improves the appearence of a short letter.
